You Have To Speak Up In Order To Be Heard

In case you haven’t noticed, the tax break we got from the federal government last year, has ended. You remember, the one where we got $13 extra a week in our paychecks. What? You didn’t notice? Well maybe that’s because it was such a measly amount. It was hardly noticeable in a time when the price of everything is going up but annual cost of living increases in our pay were put on hold. The other thing you may not be aware of is, that come tax time, you will be paying taxes on that $13 tax break.

I hear on TV that we are currently in recovery and the recession is almost over. I hear that the reason the price of gas has gone up recently (again) is in anticipation of improvements in the economy. Shouldn’t we wait until things actually improve before raising the price of stuff. I also hear, just about everyday, discussion of one new tax or another and it’s driving me nuts.

What happened to “for the people, by the people”? I haven’t been able to find a single American who actually wants to have their taxes raised. The reason the government has to raise taxes is to pay for all the outlandish spending they are doing.

If they raise taxes again then they need to raise our pay so we can pay the taxes. Or better yet, go after all the people and/or companies who are using tax loopholes to get out of paying, like members of the current administration. They also need to, and I know you are tired of hearing this, cut excess government spending. We elect congressmen and senators to represent us and get things done. Why are we also paying for them to have huge staffs, multiple offices and retirement plans that even the most successful Americans don’t enjoy.

I understand the need to pay taxes in order to run the government, but there has to be limits on what they spend. If they are going to make us pay then our input should be important. With the technology we have today, every voting American should be able to see the bills coming before congress and the senate and have an opportunity to make their feelings known prior to a vote. There should not be any back door deals or votes in the middle of the night behind closed doors.

So let you voice be heard. What happens now will affect you and your family for years to come. If you don’t speak up or you don’t vote, then you also give up the right to complain.

So go to www.senate.gov and/or www.house.gov and let you representatives know how you feel, whether you agree with me or not.
